Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What Is Focused Group?

This is a small-group class with up to five students, designed for those who need closer guidance in foundational language or Mathematics.

Students who require more time or support will receive step-by-step attention from our tutors. For younger learners in the lower primary levels, we incorporate short breaks to help them stay focused. They may use our student lounge for a quick recharge before returning to class.

Tutors guide students through each task, offering hands-on support and using manipulatives where needed. Lessons move at a pace suited to the student, while still preparing them for their upcoming Weighted Assessments.

At the primary level, students will be guided through composition writing, comprehension (Paper 2), and oral skills. For lower primary students, journal writing is included to build idea generation and strengthen writing fluency.

Writing is taught approximately once every two weeks, while oral practice is included monthly. Alongside our in-house materials, students will regularly work on past-year papers to build familiarity with exam-style questions and prepare for term assessments.

This is designed for parents who want their children to develop greater confidence in composition writing. For Primary 5 and 6 students, we cover both situational and continuous writing, with an emphasis on narrative composition.

Students will be guided through drafting, editing, and applying writing techniques to improve clarity and structure. Compositions are written regularly, and tutors provide targeted feedback to help students refine their work.

If your child is enrolled in both English and Writing classes, we can focus on Paper 2 components in their English lessons while sharpening Paper 1 in the writing class. This can be arranged in consultation with the centre.

At the secondary level, lessons cover writing, comprehension, and oral communication. Students will also engage in discussions using current articles to build awareness of topics often tested in expository essays and oral exams.

The programme equips students with the skills to analyse, respond, and express ideas confidently in preparation for their termly assessments.

Upper primary students often struggle with Paper 2, especially problem-solving and higher-order questions. In our Primary 5 and 6 Math classes, we dedicate time to strengthen conceptual understanding and problem-solving techniques.

Students are taught to identify key phrases in word problems, translate them into mathematical expressions, and apply the correct methods to solve them. As the questions become more complex and require deeper reasoning, more time is needed to work through each one thoroughly.

This structure also helps bridge the learning gap between Primary 4 and Primary 5, giving students a stronger foundation and reducing the risk of a performance drop in upper primary.
